Typical working conditions in the industry

Date: 2026-08-10 Click: 68

Power (thermal/nuclear) boiler drain, superheater discharge, turbine drain, temperature 650 ℃+, pressure 4500LB, required to quickly close within ≤ 1s

Petrochemical hydrogenation unit, oil and gas wellhead, catalytic cracking, temperature 400 ℃+, pressure 42MPa, containing H ₂ S/CO ₂ corrosion and catalyst particles

Metallurgical mine slurry transportation, cooling water control, tailings treatment, containing ore particles, high erosion

Long distance pipeline/natural gas pressure of 150-1500LB, requiring bidirectional sealing, double blocking, and online maintenance

Working conditions of coal chemical industry with strong cohesive media such as black water, grey water, slag water, and lock slag

Chlor alkali/soda ash/nitric acid strong corrosive medium (Cl ⁻, NO ∝⁻), temperature ≤ 180 ℃, using titanium/nickel based alloy

Asphalt/slurry transportation to prevent blockage and extend maintenance cycle

8、 Advantages and limitations

✅  Advantage

Long wear life: The metal hard sealing surface is resistant to erosion and has a long maintenance free period

Wide temperature and pressure resistance range: covering from cryogenic to 850 ℃ high temperature, from atmospheric pressure to 32MPa high pressure

Strong adaptability to media: gas, liquid, steam, corrosive media, and slurry containing particles are all compatible

Reliable bidirectional sealing: zero leakage can be achieved for both imports and exports

Fire safety: Metal seal+graphite fireproof ring, reliable sealing even in fire conditions

Easy to operate: 90 ° rotation opening and closing, low torque, can be remotely controlled/automated

⚠️  limitation

Cost higher than soft sealed ball valves

In the scenario of low-pressure small-diameter clean media, the cost-effectiveness is not as good as that of soft seals

Extremely high requirements for machining accuracy and surface treatment processes

9、 Key selection points

Particle, high temperature, high pressure → Choose hard sealed wear-resistant ball valve

Clean, room temperature, low pressure → Soft sealed ball valve can meet the requirements

Select the appropriate hardening process and valve body material (such as 316L stainless steel, duplex steel, titanium, nickel based alloy, etc.) based on the specific medium (corrosiveness, particle size, temperature and pressure)

Pay attention to whether the spring preload design matches the operating temperature range

When using adhesive media, priority should be given to models with self-cleaning structures with scraper blades

In summary, the essence of hard sealed wear-resistant ball valves is to replace rubber soft seals with metal hard seals, and then increase the hardness of the sealing surface to HRC60 or above through processes such as spraying, welding, and ceramics. At the same time, the sealing reliability under high temperature and high pressure is solved by spring pre tightening and fluid self reinforcement, ultimately achieving the four in one of "wear resistance, high temperature resistance, high pressure resistance, and long life". It is the preferred valve type for cutoff control under harsh working conditions.
